Common reasons given for turning litters over to shelters.  "I didn't know she could get pregnant that young ."  It can happen as early as 4 months.   "I thought my dog (or cat) should have just one litter."  Research has proven that a dog or cat is much healthier if she is spayed before her first heat cycle.  "I didn't have the money to get her fixed."  That's why we're here ~ to provide affordable spay/neuter.  "My dog (or cat) is so wonderful, I want a puppy just like her (or him)."  Your dog's genes are only half the equation and you can't get an exact copy.  Besides, what happens to the other babies in the litter, and their babies?
